Once we pick you up from your hotel we will start your journey around the island with one of its most iconic sites. The Armenistis Lighthouse can be characterized as the epitome of all that is Myconian; guilelessly beautiful, unabashedly Cycladic, elegant in its own way and with a deep sense of tradition. A constant reminder of Mykonos' proud maritime past, Armenistis or Faros as the locals call it has been in existence for more than a century and is still in use today.
We will drive east, past the artificial lake of Marathi and visit our first beach for the day! Agios Sostis beach lies on the side of Panormos bay. Small and quite secluded, this is one of the beaches preferred by those wanting to escape the large crowds of Mykonos. One more beach like that is Ftelia, on the base of the same bay, which happens to be our next stop. Ftelia is very close to a Neolithic settlement of the same name which dates back to the 5th millennium BCE. According to legend, it is also the final resting place of the Homeric hero Ajax the Locrian. We will also admire the totality of the Mykonian landscape by talking a detour near Ftelia and reaching one of the highest spots on the entire island. The panoramic views offered by this isolated spot will delight those wishing to snap some memorable pictures from their journey.
Back on the road and we head towards the heartland of Mykonos and the settlement of Ano Mera. This picturesque village is a surefire way to experience life as a local. Taste authentic Mykonian cuisine, browse the quaint shops of Ano Mera and of course pay a visit to the Monastery of Panagia Tourliani, the focal point of the village. The 16th century building features a beautiful altar as well as elaborate icons and incense holders depicting various religious scenes. Optionally we can stop at a nearby tavern for a traditional Cycladic meal.
Our final stop before we head back to your hotel will be the beach of Kalafatis on the Southeast end of the island. One of the more popular beaches on Mykonos, Kalafatis' location favors windsurfing and is thus preferred by watersport aficionados of all sorts. With our tour coming to an end, we will make our way back as you contemplate the magical landscapes you witnessed during your journey.
