Our adventure begins when your personal driver picks you up from your hotel in a deluxe minivan. We will make our way to the village of Artemonas, traversing the mountainous terrain of Sifnos. This wild landscape, characteristic of the Cycladic islands, features more than 300 idyllic churches and chapels sprinkled throughout. Be sure to spot as many as you can by their typical whitewashed walls and blue domes. Throughout the drive, bits and pieces of Sifnos' ancient and modern history will be revealed by your guide to weave a story that stretches six millennia, as Sifnos has been inhabited since 4,000 BCE.

Once we reach the village of Artemonas you will discover a village stranded in time, as this haven of Sifnian tradition has been left unscathed by modern life. We will visit the village’s old aristocratic neighborhood where neoclassic mansions built 200 years ago seamlessly combine with whitewashed Cycladic houses in a fluid architectural style that enchants every visitor. Leaving Artemonas the tour will continue on foot, walking mostly downhill the stone-paved pedestrian alleys of Ano Petali, offering breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea and the surrounding islands along the way. Amidst the striking scenery we will continue to descend from the Ano Petali hill towards the center of Apollonia, the present capital of Sifnos.

Apollonia consists of a group of hamlets linked by a central throughway and spreads out like an amphitheater on the slopes of three hills, carved into terraces and planted with olive trees. Labyrinths of stepped lanes, most of them paved with local stone, peculiar chimney pots decorated with birds on top of sugar-cubed houses, chapels here and there, traditional shops and flowered courtyards paint a picture of a town celebrating its roots and embracing its idiosyncrasies every chance it gets. Once we reach Apollonia, we will walk uphill, through its majestic winding alleys, observing the preserved town with every step we take. We will find ourselves in the center of Apollonia before we visit a few Byzantine churches where we will gain insight on some of the traditions that define Sifnos. We will proceed to the local Folklore Museum in Heroon Square, which features numerous exhibits of embroidery, wood-working, lacework, pottery and even weaponry. Once the visit is concluded, your guide will return you to your hotel and you will have hopefully gained a deeper understanding of what makes Sifnos a gem in the Aegean Sea.
