We will depart from Chania and take the coastal road towards the Akrotiri Peninsula until we find ourselves in the Monastery of Agia Triada. Built during the 17th century in the Byzantine architectural style, the Monastery is dedicated to the Holy Trinity and houses a library that contains rare books. It is set on a wonderfully overgrown landscape of olive groves and cypress trees and it is there that we will explore the premises and learn about the monks' produce of organic olive oil and wine.
Continuing our exploration towards the verdant province of Apokoronas, we will stop by the Fortress of Koules, set on an impressive position which offers panoramic views of the Souda Gulf. We will take a quick stop for photographs that will make your friends jealous and then hop back on your transport to visit the picturesque village of Macheri. Encapsulating the true Cretan spirit, Macheri is the ideal setting to experience life as a local. We will stroll around its alleys and take some refreshments at a typical ‘kafenion’.
The tour will then take us further inland where we will visit the studio of a known local ceramicist. The house, featured many times in Greek and international press, is a great example of traditional architecture, renovated in perfect harmony with the surrounding countryside. Continuing our scenic drive along the foothills of the White Mountains, we will stop for a delicious rustic meal at a family-run tavern, located on a privileged vista point overlooking the valley and the sea beyond. We will make our way back to your hotel late in the afternoon.
