Your tour begins as a bus picks you and your co-travelers for the day up from a designated spot near your hotel and drops you off at the port of Vlychada. The port is on the south tip of the island, near a wonderful volcanic beach bearing the same name and laid with black sand. We will board a fully renovated caique, a marriage of tradition and luxury, and set sail for the caldera.
As we move west along the coast, we will sail past the prehistoric settlement of Akrotiri, a Minoan city dating as far back as the 5th millennium BCE. Close by, lies the Red Beach, one of the most recognizable spots on the island and our first stop for the day. You will have ample time to take a swim, grab plenty of photos to make your friends back home red with jealousy, or just take in the stunning scenery. Back on board we will set sail once more and pass by the White Beach, another uniquely colored spot on the island. Around the bend of Santorini, we will see the famous Venetian Lighthouse, an important landmark on the island, which was built during the end of the 19th century to warn sailors of the rocky shore ahead.
We have now reached the caldera, the submerged volcano on whose lip Santorini stands. A second stop is in order as soon as we reach the hot springs, a natural breathtaking place that is a testament to Santorini's volcanic past. Located in the small islet in Palea Kameni -a name meaning old scorched- the springs are rich in sulfur, iron and manganese which give the waters healing properties as well as a distinct green-orange color! You can once more take a swim or simply relax in the sun deck and take in the scenery!
On our way back to the port of Vlychada, the meal will be served on board, consisting of numerous local delicacies that will delight you! If you opted for the evening cruise, an extra stop just outside the port to watch the sunset will give a romantic aroma to a wonderful day at sea!
