  • Day 1 -  Athens to Delphi via Thebes, Levadia and Arachova
In the morning you will be picked up from select spots in Athens (departure at approx 8:45) and drive through the fertile plains of Beotia, enjoying the picturesque scenery and crossing various Greek towns along the way. These will be -in succession- Thebes, which was a major city-state in antiquity, rivaling that of Athens, Levadia -known in antiquity as Mideia according to the historian Pausanias- and Arachova, one of the most charming villages in all Greece, where we will make a short stop. We will reach Delphi, the 'navel of the world' according to ancient Greeks, a sacred site because of the presence of the famous Oracle. On the slopes of Mount Parnassus, in a landscape of unparalleled beauty and majesty, lie the ruins of the Sanctuary of Apollo Pythios. We will visit the grounds which aside from the Oracle house the Treasury of the Athenians, the Treasury of Sifnians, the Stadium which used to house the Pythian Games and the Ancient Theater which offers magnificent views of the valley below. We will finish our tour in the Delphi Archaeological Museum which features masterpieces of Ancient Greek sculpture such as the bronze Charioteer.
